South St. Anthony Park Candidates - 4 available positions

Matt Hass
Matt Hass has lived in SAP (North & South) for eight years, as a renter and homeowner.  He is a south representative on the full council and on the environment committee.  He was also the district representative on the Rock-Tenn Community Advisory Panel, which looked into alternative fuel options for the Rock-Tenn plant.  Matt says, "We live in a very unique community that faces many future challenges; I look forward to working on these challenges through the council and with the community as a whole.  Our community can only be as strong as WE ALL make it.”

Jim Hunt
My goal in continuing on the SAPCC Board is to bring my years of experience and knowledge to help my community.  I’ve spent 30 years in the chemical manufacturing field and more recently 5 years in the property development business that I believe give me great insights into resolving very difficult and complex issues.  I currently sit on the board of the Emerald Gardens Condominiums Homeowners Association Board.  My resounding interest is in maintaining and improving the fabric of our urban neighborhood.  I am a strong believer in having all parts of city life, LIVE, WORK & PLAY come together.

Joe Kelly
Volunteering and participating are essential opportunities and obligations for a full citizen of a community. Among my community/volunteering activities are serving as a St. Paul election judge, serving on the board of the Minnesota Fathers & Families Network, the national Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood, Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day, and other organizations.

I am a journalist by training, having written 7 books and worked as a MPR reporter. I will bring to SAPCC my experience in helping organizations communicate effectively. I live in SAP and work for a company headquartered in and committed to SAP.

Nolan O'Neill
Community, to me, means a group of people working together for the greater good of its citizens.  A community, however, needs participation to achieve this goal.  Fortunately every individual within a community possesses unique skills.  Community leaders need to encourage citizens to apply their attributes for the greater good.

My unique skills include my youth, my background in finance and my experience working for an institutional investment consulting firm.  I believe my familiarity working with committees for local endowments, foundations, and healthcare systems is of value to our citizens.  If elected, I will apply these skills to help our community.

Arnold Ramler
I am a current Board member of the Council.  I am interested in keeping Saint Anthony Park diversified and livable. I am for integrating business with residential. I will make informed common sense decisions about Saint Anthony Park.  I have lived off and on in St. Anthony Park for twenty odd years.

North St. Anthony Park Candidates - 5 available positions

Brian Longley
I am currently on the Board and have lived in our unique and vital community for 24 years. I welcome your support. To me, citizen participation at this level is especially rewarding because this is where democracy begins to lift off. The Community Council works hard to be accessible and effective. This is not always easy, but it is always interesting and it is essential.  There are a number of significant challenges just ahead – including the construction of light-rail on University Avenue. On the Council I always listen hard, strive to act wisely and am there when it counts.

Roger Purdy
I’m running for re-election to the District 12 Community Council because I believe there is important work to be finished. We are close to filing the Como Ave. Small Area plan. We have laid some important groundwork to make our community “greener” and more livable. The development of the Central Corridor Light Rail and Rock Tenn pose interesting Land Use questions. I’d like to continue to work on all these issues and would appreciate your vote.

John Seppanen
In general, citizen participation is working together for the common good.  More specifically in St. Anthony Park, citizen participation is meant to improve the neighborhood and strengthen a sense of community.  If elected, as a member of the SAPCC I will bring a range of skills and interests that I consider critical to the work of the Council.  As an architect, my professional skills and knowledge will help discern issues related to improving our environment.  As a resident, my interests include insuring that we have a safe, vibrant and sustainable Community.  I look forward to the opportunity to serve.
