Most of the work of the Council is done through our committtees, taskforces, and volunteers. We always welcome new committee or Board members, volunteers for annual events, and participation in any of our programs or events.
Community Connections Committee
The Community Connections Committee focuses on community outreach and citizen participation. The Committee has set its sights on objectives to help create a safer and more connected neighborhood and is focusing on improving SAPCC communications, revitalizing our system of block clubs, and developing a program to welcome new neighbors. We meet the third Wednesday of every month at 7pm.
Environment Committee
The mission of the Environment Committee is to protect and enhance the quality of natural resources in St. Anthony Park through public involvement and advocacy. We meet the 4th Wednesday of every month at 7pm.
Energy Resilience Group (ERG)
ERG has joined the St. Anthony Park Community Council as a subcommittee of the Environment Committee. They work with the Council to co-sponsor educational films and discussions. The Energy Resiience Group is working to find ways to achieve dramatic decreases in fossil fuel consumption. Individual action by a few helps, individual action by many helps more, but larger, more ambitious solutions are possible only by joint action. And those actions should fit with neighborhood aspirations and inspiration.
Land Use Committee
The mission of the Land Use Committee is to guide, evaluate and monitor issues related to District 12 development and preservation that influence the physical and or economic well-being of St. Anthony Park and surrounding communities. We meet the 1st Thursday of the month at 7pm.
Community Garden
St. Anthony Park Community garden was established in 1981 by gardening enthusiasts and in 1998 the land was purchased from the Railroad by the St. Anthony Park Community Council with funds raised by gardeners, local businesses and government grants. More than 96 vegetable and flower plots are rented on an annual basis. The garden is managed by volunteers.
Block Clubs
A block club is a group of neighbors who socialize and work together to address common concerns. Block clubs address a wide variety of issues, including placemaking, beautification, traffic calming, alleyway improvement, waste reduction, welcoming new residents, crime prevention/problem properties, and shared childcare. Block clubs also serve as an important network for communicating neighborhood news.
Recycling
In St. Anthony Park, recycling day is Wednesday. Free bins are available for pickup at the South St. Anthony Park Rec Center, 890 Cromwell. If you cannot pick up a bin, we will deliver. Please contact us. Dwellings with more than 10 units should contact Eureka Recycling directly.
Transportation
St. Anthony Park has long managed the impact of traffic caused by industrial uses and proximity to regional rail corridors. We recognize the environmental and health benefits of walking and biking and reduced reliance on the auto and the sustainable development opportunities posed by LRT and industrial land conversion. St. Anthony Park envisions a healthy balance of transportation options. Such options will encourage transit, bicycle and pedestrian connections between homes and workplaces and between workplaces and commercial services.
Arts District Task Force
Working to preserve the arts district in the Raymond and University Area, a group of artists and residents are exploring ways to continue to keep arts and creative enterprises stable and thriving. As a part of their efforts, they implemented the Arts Census to identify the size of the community. Please click here to participate.
The District Plan
Each district council produces ten-year District Plan that is adopted in part into the St. Paul Comprehensive Plan.
