Renter’s Credit Update from MN Department of Revenue
Starting with your 2024 taxes, the Renter’s Credit is now part of your Minnesota Individual Income Tax return (Form M1). You no longer need to file a separate Form M1PR for the Renter’s Property Tax Refund. Here’s what you need to know:
- As a renter: Include your CRP info with Form M1 to claim the credit. It will adjust your tax
owed or increase your refund. No separate refund later in the year. - If you don’t file income taxes: You must file Form M1 to claim the Renter’s Credit.
- If you don’t pay rent: No changes needed.
- If you’re now a homeowner: File Form M1PR for the Homestead Credit Refund. If you rented
part of 2024, claim the Renter’s Credit on Form M1 too.
