Metro Transit is beginning planning work on the proposed METRO H Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which would upgrade the existing Route 3 corridor that runs along Como Avenue through St. Anthony Park.

The H Line would travel from downtown Minneapolis through Como Avenue, continue along Maryland Avenue in Saint Paul, and terminate at the Sun Ray Transit Center. As part of this change, the route would no longer continue into downtown Saint Paul, focusing instead on the Como and Maryland corridor.

Planning for the project is underway in 2026, followed by engineering in 2027 and construction anticipated in 2028–2029. Metro Transit expects the line to begin service in 2029.

Bus Rapid Transit differs from traditional bus service in several ways. Stations typically include off-board fare payment, real-time arrival information, and enhanced shelters. Buses can board passengers through multiple doors and may receive traffic signal priority at intersections, helping reduce delays and improve reliability.

Scott Jensen, Co-Chair of the SAPCC Transportation Committee, noted the importance of continued community input as the project develops. “These BRT lines are designed to improve connections across the region,” Jensen said. “Public feedback helps Metro Transit understand how proposed stations and service patterns will affect neighborhoods like St. Anthony Park.”

Metro Transit representatives will join the SAPCC Transportation Committee meeting on Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. to share information about the project and discuss proposed stop locations along Como Avenue. Neighbors interested in learning more or sharing feedback are encouraged to attend.
