Event Details
Located off Highway 280, Kasota Ponds are three of only four water bodies in St. Anthony Park. They are home to turtles, migratory waterfowl, fish, songbirds, mammals, invertebrates, and pollinator-friendly plants.
In recent years volunteers have removed over 2,200 pounds of trash and recyclables. Join us to protect this vital wetland, enjoy educational presentations, refreshments, and the chance to see wildlife up close.

History & About Kasota Ponds
For two decades the SAPCC Environment Committee has led community members and local youth each spring to remove debris from the Kasota Ponds wetland area. This important habitat suffers from illegal dumping, road runoff, and litter. In just a few hours we remove dozens of bags of trash and help create a healthier home for herons, turkeys, fish, and turtles.
We have installed security cameras to discourage illegal dumping and successfully secured a grant from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO) for buckthorn removal! Working with Minnesota Native Landscapes and neighboring landowners, we have reclaimed pond edges with native vegetation and offered plant-identification tours.
MWMO drone footage captured the before, during, and after of Phase 1 buckthorn removal – view the gallery here.
What the Cleanup Provides
- A healthier wetland for wildlife and pollinators
- Reduced illegal dumping and pollution
- Stronger community connections and education
- A greener, cleaner neighborhood we all can enjoy
A Community-Led Effort
The Kasota Ponds Cleanup is organized by the SAPCC Environment Committee and powered entirely by volunteers. Every bag of trash you help remove makes a real difference for water quality, wildlife habitat, and our neighborhood.
